In the User-centered design workshop I teach at the Fraunhofer Institute, I often tell my students: “Understand the problem first, understand the user and context, design the right interface and interaction for it, and only then think about technology. In particular, resist the temptation to use a mobile phone. Mobile phones are great, but they are often neither the only, nor the best, solution for your users’ problem”. I may have just found the funniest reminder of that principle 🙂
